We go the keys on Friday, or so we thought. We went over there and none of the keys worked. But half of the doors are broken so we weren't worried about it too much. We called our realtor to inquire about the keys though and he said the previous owners were on their way out of town so they couldn't bring the "real" keys. John changed the locks the next day but found out from the neighbors that the previous owners had come over at one in the morning and were in the house. She never liked them, nor did anyone else in the neighborhood, so she called the cops immediately and they escorted them out of the house.
These people are pretty out of it, to say the least. Problems with hard drugs and what not. I wish our first experience buying a house could have been with different people. Like someone who actually cared about their house and who cared about the fact that it's our first home. If it were me, I would have the house feeling warm and cozy for the new owners and I would have left a little house warming gift or something. Instead, our first house is disgusting!! It's amazing that people can live like this. But the good news is that there is nowhere to go but up!! Even the smallest amount of work and love put into this house would make a difference. And all of the neighbors are SO HAPPY for us to move in. Let's just say it wasn't the first time the cops frequented the area. Our house was the last little run down old shack on the block ... but once we make it our own it's going to be cute as a button =)
Needless to say, we're going to install an alarm system and outside motion lights. I'm sure there are going to be some shady people popping by until everyone figures out the last people don't live there anymore. Plus, the woman that lived there was raised there and I'm guessing she might have some emotional issues with the entire transition as well. I've never been much into alarm systems, and our area is well above average on the safety scale, but I don't want to take any chances. I'm sure I'll feel safe after a year or so ...
