My cold is almost done and I'm about to get some elbow grease going. We decided to salvage the old kitchen cabinets and save some money in the process. They are old and dirty but made of solid wood and should clean up well. We removed all of the doors and drawers and brought them back to the rental so I could clean, prime, and paint them while Lake naps. Our design goal is pictured below. White cabinets with butcher block cabinet tops, an under-mount sink, and brushed nickel hardware.
This is our first time to paint cabinets but we have been doing a lot of research so hopefully it will all work out well. And we weren't sure we could afford wood countertops until we found a great deal through Ikea. (Only $347 for our kitchen space. We budgeted $400 so it was perfect!!) Then we learned the shipping would be $349!!! Luckily, John has a conference near San Fran in February so he's going to pick up the countertops then. I can't wait to see the finished product!!
I'll post more pictures as the project unfolds ...

Love those countertops. Someone suggested just last week that we go to Ikea for those same ones. I'm convinced!
