MORE SNOW (INSIDE AND OUT!!)

More snow settled on the central coast this weekend and along with it came a white dusting of the inside of our house. AMAZING!! Lake now lives in a winter wonderland =)

John and I spent a LONG weekend prepping the house for the painter. Taping, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, adding more wall texture, sanding, filling holes with wood putty, sanding some more, taking down doors, covering outlets, so on and so forth. It only took the painter one day ($48 an hour) to prime the paneling and cabinets with shellac, prime the drywall and new texture with normal primer, and paint the ceilings with our first coat of color (simply white). Not bad. But the paneling did take 10 gallons (two coats) of shellac!! He said the stains were so bad everything kept bleeding through the first coat. Thankfully, the second coat did the trick.

I am so glad we decided to hire a painter for this. I was planning on doing all of the priming and painting myself. I quickly realized it would have taken me too long with only a brush and roller, and limited time. I still have to add two coats of paint to the cabinets and walls, but it will be all NO VOC so I can take my time with it. I'll add the first coat before we move in, to protect the primer, and then add the second coats during Lake's naps once we move in. (ONE MONTH AWAY!!) And I only have one coat left on the kitchen cabinet doors. They look great!!!

NEXT: Kitchen countertops and wood floors, beginning Wednesday and Friday. Woohoo!!
