Lake's First Immunization =(

Lake got her first immunization today. We decided to wait until now to begin them and we're glad we did because she only has to take about half of those recommended from birth because she is past the life threatening infant diseases, thankfully. We're taking it slow and began with the DTaP which is diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis in one vaccine. I'm not crazy about the combo but it's the only way to get the pertussis vaccine and we've had a few epidemics of perstussis in our area so we thought it was important for her safety and the safety of infants she may come in contact with when she gets sick (pertussis has caused a few infant deaths in our area because the vaccine wears off after 5 years and the older kids are getting sick and passing it along.)

Anyway, she was great!! She cried a little but quickly recovered and even said the entire doctors visit was fun. We prepped her a great deal for the entire affair which really helped. Plus, we went for pizza and ice cream afterward ... you just can't go wrong with pizza and ice cream =) And she hasn't had any side affects, thankfully. I was really nervous about everything but I actually held up pretty well too. It's a hard step for parents and I'm so glad we're over the first hurdle ...
